This is the book presentation “Christian Inspired Vegetarianism”. Christian Inspired Vegetarianism was firstly published in Italian in 2016, then re-edited in 2024, and is now part of the “Cattolici Vegetariani” book series. It has recently been translated into English by Stefania Angerami and is now available worldwide thanks to global distribution. The present book focuses on the basic tenet of the ‘Christian respect for the whole of creation’ from a biblical, spiritual, and ethical perspective. In particular, the author addresses the role played by the vegetarian choice inside the Christian faith. By a careful analysis of some key biblical passages, it emerges how a compassionate diet takes inspiration from and is sustained by the Holy Scriptures. As the author points out, notwithstanding that the official Church never took a clear-cut stand on this specific issue, several Saints and monastic orders have considered this choice consistent with the Christian message of peace: Saint Francis of Assisi and Saint Philip Neri could be considered “animal activist” ante litteram; similarly, other less-known Saints and Mystics have considered animals as creatures deserving respect and they have nterpreted the concept of human dominium as a compassionate service towards Creation. Through this new and careful analysis, Marilena Bogazzi presents vegetarianism as a consequence of the deep-seated Christian commitment to cherish all living beings.
